Laser Vision Correction

Why Laser Vision Correction?

Each of us has our own reason for wanting to see without glasses or contacts.

Couple ploaying tennisFor some, glasses interfere with the enjoyment of recreational activities such as golf, swimming, softball or tennis.

Others must meet minimum levels of uncorrected visual acuity to enter certain occupations (e.g. security officers)   Firefighters

Police officers and firefighters depend on their vision for the safety of the public as well as their own safety.

Contact lenses, while a reasonable alternative for some, are not risk free. If you wear contacts, have you ever had a lost or torn contact, an eye infection, or been in a dry and dusty environment? Even the suggestion of such things brings fear to the heart of the most devoted contact lens wearer.

Whatever your personal reason for wanting to be rid of contacts or glasses, modern laser technology can now provide a solution that may be just right for you.

What is LASIK?

LASIK (Laser in-situ keratomileusis) with the excimer laser represents the most technologically advanced method available today to correct refractive errors (i.e. nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism) and reduce your dependence on glasses and contact lenses.

LASIK combines the ultra-precise excimer laser with automated lamellar keratoplasty (ALK) - a procedure performed for more than thirty years. The result is a modern refractive surgical procedure with unparalleled precision and predictability.

The excimer laser is able to remove (vaporize) a thin layer of tissue from the cornea and change the curvature of the cornea. When the curvature of the cornea is changed, the focusing power of the eye is changed and refractive errors are eliminated.

LASIK is the fastest growing and most frequently requested laser vision correction procedure today and is performed in over 52 countries around the world.
